Pedestrian dies in South Yarra

A pedestrian has died after being struck by a car in South Yarra last night.

    It is believed a silver Mercedes 4WD travelling south on Chapel Street struck the pedestrian who was crossing the road near Toorak Road just before 9pm.

    The pedestrian, a man aged in his 70s, was taken to hospital where he later died.

    The driver, a man aged in his 20s, was taken to hospital for observation.

    Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are on scene investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.

    Detectives are keen to speak to any witnesses or anyone that may have dash-cam footage.
