“I’m pleased to see the government taking its responsibility to provide inclusive education seriously and I am hopeful this is a positive step forwards to provide better schools in Brimbank.

“Council is advocating strongly for the State Government to provide better access to education to all students in Brimbank including those with a disability.

“We know that 18 per cent of the Brimbank population are affected by some form of disability and there are six special schools in Brimbank.

“With our state primary and high schools bursting at the seams, it’s pretty clear we have a problem that needs addressing now.

“Our children deserve the best education possible and we need to make sure families are provided quality local services and are not having their children travel long distances to get a decent education.

“It is every Brimbank child’s right to a good education.

“Brimbank Council is keen for the State Government to work with us to find some meaningful and workable solutions.

“This is very much part of the reason Council is vehemently opposed to the State Government’s sale of former school sites and rezoning these sites into residential areas.

“Opening up more residential land is only going to add further pressure on our existing school network.

“This Council sees our role as working with other levels of government and community and business to put our community first.

“We will continue to advocate for a fair go for our community to help address disadvantage and improve health and education outcomes.

“We very much see our role as advocates to help make sure Brimbank gets its fair share of State and Federal government funding for services across education, health and infrastructure,” Cr Hedditch said.
