Cyclist assaulted during road rage in North Melbourne

Investigators have been told a 33 year-old man from North Melbourne was riding along Haines Street around 3.45 pm when he stopped at an intersection next to a silver Holden Commodore with registration 1GW 8YD.
The cyclist and driver became involved in a verbal argument while stopped at the lights.
The victim rode off and the Commodore accelerated quickly up behind him. The male passenger threw an object at the victim as they passed.
The victim stopped and took a photo of the number plate of the vehicle. The driver and passenger then got out of the car and began yelling profanities at the victim.
A struggle ensued and the two men grabbed at the victim’s bicycle. The victim was forced to let go when one of the men kicked him in the leg.
The alleged offenders then threatened the victim with a knife and secateurs before throwing the bike to the ground and stomping on it a number of times.
Both men then returned to their vehicle and drove off.
The victim suffered minor injuries as a result of the incident.
The driver is perceived to be of Caucasian appearance, aged in his late 20s with a solid build, brown hair, brown goatee and a tattoo on his upper right arm. He was wearing a blue polo shirt.
The passenger of the vehicle is perceived to be of Caucasian appearance, in his late 20s with a small build, brown hair which was tied back and a distinctive skin condition on his nose. He was wearing a blue work polo with a red logo.
Police believe there were a number of people in the area at the time and are keen to speak to them and any other witnesses.
