Minister for Industry and Employment, Ben Carroll today visited Bendigo Police Station to meet a trainee from Bendigo Senior Secondary College who has been placed at the station through Jobs Victoria.

The school-based traineeship program is run by Jobs Victoria partner Skillinvest, who received $2.4 million to place Indigenous Victorians into work.

They have worked in collaboration with Victoria Police to place more than 30 Indigenous School-Based Trainees in police stations across the state.

Increasing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander involvement with Victoria Police is critical to improving the relationship between the police, Indigenous peoples and local communities.

School-based traineeships are a great foundation for improving relationships and an excellent career path into the police force for young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

More than 370 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander jobseekers have now secured work thanks to the Victorian Government’s Jobs Victoria Employment Network.

Jobs Victoria is breaking down barriers and providing real help to long-term unemployed Victorians, retrenched automotive workers, at-risk young people and those with a disability.
