Mayor of Brimbank, Cr Margaret Giudice said the two synthetic grass courts, complete with fencing and LED court lighting were completed earlier this month.

“The reconstruction of these tennis courts started in July. They replace the old courts that were originally built by developers and were experiencing cracking in the slab.

“The works were completed earlier this month and have been handed back over to the Delahey Tennis Club to open up to its 200-plus members and the wider community for training, competition, coaching, social play and school use,” the Mayor said.

The reconstruction of the two tennis courts was funded under Council’s 2016/2017 Capital Works Budget at a cost of about $447,000.

The completion of this project adds to a list of other projects recently undertaken to benefit tennis in Brimbank, including:

• Resurfacing and base works to two synthetic courts at Sydenham Tennis Club at a cost of $78,000 including a club contribution of $22,400 (completed December 2016).
• Resurfacing of two synthetic grass tennis courts at Taylors Lakes Tennis Club at a cost of $45,300 including a club contribution of $22,650 (completed in May 2017).
• Lighting pole upgrade at Taylors Lakes Tennis Club at a cost of $15,000 (completed in May 2017).

Other tennis-related projects to be undertaken in 2017/2018 include:

• Planning to construct a Hot Shots Court at The Lakes Reserve, Taylors Lakes ($30,000 including $20,000 Tennis Victoria funding).
• Design for conversion of two En Tout Cas courts to synthetic grass at Keilor Park Tennis Club (expected construction in 2018/19).
• Design for construction of four new courts with lights (one multipurpose court) at Errington Reserve (expected construction in 2018/19).
• Design for construction of Errington Sports Pavilion that will house the tennis club (expected construction in 2018/19).
