Cr Hedditch said this fantastic park development would create an important and highly valued community asset for the people of Sunshine.

“This is a project that I, and indeed the whole Sunshine community, am extremely passionate about,” Cr Hedditch said.

“I’m thrilled to be here today to see this vision – for which Council and the community have worked so hard for so long – begin to be realised.

“Finally we are filling a long term gap in community access to open space – by creating a high quality park with wonderful green space and recreation facilities.

“I personally can’t wait to be able to welcome the community to Sunvale Community Park once works are completed later this year.

“The wider Sunshine community, and in particular the members of Friends of Sunvale Community Park, has played a key role in this project – from ensuring this land remained in public hands to providing important input to help inform the development of a Masterplan for the site.

“I, and Council, would like to thank everyone who has contributed to making this happen.”

Commencement of works at Sunvale is the latest development under Council’s Creating Better Parks Policy and Plan. The investment by Council and the State Government in the development of Sunvale Community Park continues the positive impact that Creating Better Parks is having on the Brimbank community.

Construction, in line with the Sunvale Community Park Master Plan adopted in June 2016, will include:

    ·         Dedicated play spaces for varying age groups, including water play for younger children and multi-purpose skateable space for all ages

    ·         A large, green ‘kick a ball’ space for active play, passive recreation and outdoor cinema use

    ·         A diagonal central pedestrian spine with solar lighting, facilitating access through the park

    ·         An indigenously-themed circuit path network featuring exercise stations and integrated with a path, providing frontage and access to the adjacent residential development

    ·         An edible garden for use by all the community

    ·         The retention of existing trees and planting of numerous large, new shade trees – Morton Bay Figs

    ·         A picnic shelter with BBQ facilities

    ·         A pavilion with flexible kiosk and toilet which is now being further developed.

    ·         Water Sensitive Urban Design elements, including harvesting and treatment of stormwater from Neil Street and potentially the adjacent development, and an underground storage tank to allow for irrigation of the park.
