Brimbank Mayor, Cr Margaret Giudice said Literacy and Numeracy Week is a very popular event that the community engages with and looks forward to each year.

“The programs offered over the week are varied and geared towards different age groups, and the community is warmly invited to attend these no charge events at our libraries.

“There is a Word Scramble competition for school students to test their knowledge, and have fun at the same time.

“There’s also counting and alphabet themed Storytime sessions for pre-schoolers, toddlers and baby bounce sessions, or a learning English through Storytime session.

“Or if the paper plane activity or Australian idioms interest you, then I encourage you to come along and participate.

“Brimbank Council has five branch libraries and an online library.  These sources help to foster a culture of reading and learning throughout life, and have a positive impact on the wellbeing of Brimbank.

“Council supports programs such as Literacy and Numeracy Week because they validate the importance of early learning.  Studies show that the earlier children are engaged with literacy and numeracy, the better outcomes they have throughout life,” Cr Giudice said.
