Detox your Home – safe and easy

01:55' 02-03-2017
Brimbank residents have the opportunity to Detox your Home – a safe, easy-to-use service offered at no cost to dispose of common, highly toxic household chemicals without harm to residents’ health or the environment.

Residents can register to drop off chemicals on Saturday 18 March from 9am-1pm.

The Detox your Home program, in partnership with Sustainability Victoria, enables the safe disposal of potentially dangerous items like pesticides, detergents and weed killers.

It is important that chemicals should not be put out with the regular rubbish collection where they could explode, ignite, leak or mix with other chemicals.

Chemicals should also not be poured down the drain where they could pollute waterways, harm animals and vegetation, contaminate drinking water supply and make rivers and beaches unsafe for swimming.

To register, please visit sustainability.vic.gov.au/detoxyourhome, choose your preferred time slot and you’ll receive the address to drop off your items on the day.

Registration is required to manage traffic flow and avoid queues on the day, which means everyone can get in and out quickly.

Residents can drop off the following items:

    • Acids & alkalis

    • Aerosols (dispose of empty cans in your household recycling bin)
