In Brimbank, many of our community services benefit from the commitment and dedication of volunteers.
One such service is the Brimbank Community Register. The Brimbank Community Register is a joint initiative of the Brimbank City Council and the Keilor Downs and Sunshine Police, which aims to promote confident and secure living amongst older residents (over 50) and people living with disability.
Those on the Register are provided with a Brimbank Community Register Identity Card which Emergency Services Personnel can refer to and contact to obtain important information about the card holder.
Volunteers also make regular welfare phone calls to people on the Register. Volunteers call to check on their welfare, chat about any safety concerns they may have, and provide information on local services, groups and activities.
Brimbank Mayor Cr John Hedditch says that the Brimbank Community Register is an important service to the community.
“We are so proud to offer this free program to older people, as well as those living with disabilities.
“It is so important for these members of our community to feel secure and confident in their safety, and to have regular, friendly contact and advice.
“We hope that it provides comfort and peace of mind knowing that someone is looking after their wellbeing.”
Cr Hedditch says the Council is grateful for the volunteers that run services like the Register.
“Volunteers are the lifeblood of community services such as the Register. We are always amazed at the generosity of Brimbank residents when it comes to volunteering, and we cannot thank them enough for their commitment and service.”
The Brimbank Community Register is always looking for new volunteers to join their team. For more information about the Brimbank Community Register or volunteering, please call (03) 9249 4789 or email info@brimbank.vic.gov.au.
