Detectives from the JACET – a partnership between the Australian Federal Police and Victoria Police – executed search warrants at the man’s home in Echuca yesterday morning (Sunday, 18 February), where he was arrested.
Police will allege that the man used mobile application Snapchat to transmit abuse of a child under the age of 12 years to another user.
He was taken to Echuca Police Station where he was charged with two counts of sexual penetration of a child under 12 years contrary to Section 45 of the Crimes Act 1958 (VIC), and use of a carriage service to produce and transmit child exploitation material, contrary to sections 474.19(1)(a)(iii) and 474.20(1)(a)(ii) of the Criminal Code Act 1995 (Cth). Further charges have not been ruled out.
He appeared before Bendigo Magistrates’ Court today, and was bailed to reappear on 30 May 2018.
Members of the public who have any information about people involved in child exploitation material are urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
