Whether you’re heading west for the Stawell Gift, Great Western Rodeo or the Stawell Gold Cup Races, police are urging everyone to consider their safety first and foremost.
Inspector Ian Lindsay said the tens of thousands of visitors could expect to see a strong police presence.
“Year after year, it is fantastic to see so many people head west to enjoy the wonderful atmosphere Stawell has to offer,” he said.
“We’ll be there to make sure people are enjoying themselves in safe manner.”
Drug and drunk drivers can expect to be waved in for testing, with a booze bus operation active throughout the weekend.
Even if you’re not driving, Insp Lindsay reminded those drinking alcohol to do so responsibly.
With underage drinking an issue in previous years, police will conduct regular patrols of licenced venues.
“These are family-friendly events and police will be on the lookout for anyone causing trouble,” he said.
“Any anti-social or criminal behaviour will not be tolerated.”
Overall, about 25,000 visitors are expected to flock to the Stawell and Halls Gap area from Friday, 14 April through to Monday 17, April.
