Richmond High School On Track To Open

The new Richmond High School is on track to open for the first cohort of students in Term 1, 2018.

Minister for Education James Merlino was today joined by Member for Richmond Richard Wynne, on a tour of the Gleadell Street Campus site to take a first-hand look at the new $43 million school.

The new Richmond High School, which has been designed by architecture firm Hayball, will cater for 650 Year 7-12 students.

Located in the heart of Richmond, the school is being built over two sites – the Griffith Street Campus, which is being built by ADCO Constructions, and the Gleadell Street Campus, being built by McCorkell Constructions.

The Griffiths Street Campus will have four levels comprising of learning and staff facilities, as well as outdoor spaces for learning, gathering and play.

The Gleadell Street Campus includes general purpose teaching spaces, four competition-standard netball courts (one indoor), as well as new showers and toilets, a canteen and administration area.

The school will be opened in two stages, with the first cohort of Year 7 students starting in Term 1, 2018, at the Gleadell Street Campus.

The Griffiths Street Campus will open in Term 1, 2019 and will cater for the second cohort of Year 7 students and students moving into Year 8.

The Richmond High School upgrade is part of a $2.5 billion investment by the Andrews Labor Government in the past three Budgets to improve classrooms, upgrade facilities and build new schools across the state.

This school building boom has delivered more than 1,200 school upgrades and 56 new school projects across the state, supporting almost 5,000 construction jobs for Victorians.
