Investigators have been told a 24-year-old woman was alone in a lift at an apartment building on City Road when a number of youths crowded into the elevator about 3.30am on 1 January.
When the victim tried to get out of the lift at her floor, she was assaulted by the group.
She sustained bruising and a lump to her head and was taken to hospital for observation.
It is believed the same group, who are perceived to be of African appearance, were involved in another incident in the lift at the same address the following morning.
Two female victims, who are yet to be identified, were assaulted by the group about 2am.
Police are urging these two females to come forward and have released CCTV of a number of people who may be able to assist with their enquiries.
Anyone with any information regarding the incidents or the people involved are urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
