Investigators have been told the victim was asleep in his home on Glen Huntly Road when a group of masked offenders gained access to the premises on Friday 11 November about 3.40am.
The offenders then assaulted the 79-year-old victim and made demands for cash.
It is believed the two offenders were scared off by the victim’s housemate who returned home.
The group fled empty handed in a silver Holden Commodore sedan with partial registration ‘TPP’.
The victim was transported to hospital with serious injuries.
Both offenders are perceived to be Caucasian and aged in their mid 20s to mid 30s.
One offender was wearing black pants, a black sleeveless hooodie with the words ‘bad company since day one’ printed on the back with a red and black checked jumper underneath and a mask.
The second offender was wearing grey track pants and a black sleeveless jacket with a purple hoodie underneath and a balaclava.
Investigators have released images and CCTV footage of two men who they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.
