Since 1853 when Victoria Police was established, 159 officers have paid the ultimate price serving their community.
Chief Commissioner Graham Ashton said National Police Remembrance Day was a significant event for all current and former members of the force.
“Today, we pause to acknowledge police across our nation and the risks that our men and women take every day to keep our community safe.
“More than 13,000 police and 1100 Protective Services Officers work every day to protect and serve our community.
“We value their bravery, service and commitment.
“And our thoughts on National Remembrance Day are with the families, loved ones and colleagues of those police who are sadly no longer with us. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten.”
The annual commemorative march and service will be held today.
The march will start from Princes Bridge at 10am with the service following at the Victoria Police Memorial on St Kilda Road at 10.20am.
Blue Ribbon Day is held on the same day each year to coincide with National Police Remembrance Day.
This is an initiative of the Blue Ribbon Foundation and raises money for improved emergency facilities named in memory of fallen officers in Victoria’s public hospitals.
