National Skills Week is an opportunity to shine light on the amazing training underway in Victoria, adding that the Victorian Training Awards – which takes place on August 26 – celebrates the best of training in the state.

The national launch was held at Melbourne’s Queen Victoria Market which is home to skilled workers – from those processing fresh produce to those crafting fine jewellery.

The Andrews Labor Government is restoring Victoria’s training and TAFE system and over the past 18 months has:

    • Invested heavily in TAFE, including the $320 million TAFE Rescue Fund
    • Cracked down on poor quality training providers with the $9 million quality blitz
    • Increased industry’s voice in the training system with the appointment of Victoria’s First Skills Commissioner and the launch of the Industry Engagement Framework
    • Boosted opportunities for apprentices and trainees
    • Commissioned a major independent review of training in Victoria with a commitment to reforming the training system for the beginning of 2017

Melbourne will also host the 2016 WorldSkills Australia National Competition in October which will showcase some of the country’s best apprentices and trainees.

National Skills Week runs from August 29 to September 5.
