The Victorian Budget 2018/19 will provide $60 million for new and upgraded car parking spaces, more secure storage facilities for cyclists and better access for pedestrians at busy metropolitan train stations.
Key stations to be upgraded include Belgrave, Sandown Park, Epping and Craigieburn with other stations to also be considered as part of the package, which is the biggest one-off boost to station car parking in Victorian history.
Car parking at Belgrave will be more than doubled with a new multi-deck car park to be built in the station precinct.
It will provide 470 new car parks for commuters – a significant increase to the 160 spaces currently available.
This will mean commuters will no longer clog up neighbouring streets with their cars and will free up more car parking in Belgrave’s town centre for local traders, shoppers and residents.
The station precinct will also be safer and easier to access with new lighting, CCTV, better parking and drop off points for coaches, and clearer signage.
These 2,000 car parking spaces add to the 3,000 new and upgraded car spaces the Andrews Labor Government has built at metropolitan and regional train stations over the past three years to help make sure commuters can get a car park when they take the train.
