Police will allege in court that the man internally concealed eight pellets which contained methamphetamine.

On Thursday, 12 October, the man arrived in Brisbane on a flight from Los Angeles and was selected for further examination by Australian Border Force (ABF) officers.

Following an interview and examination which revealed the presence of the pellets, the ABF referred the man to the Australian Federal Police (AFP), who transported him to hospital for further examination. The examination confirmed he was carrying a number of pellets internally and they have since been removed.

The man was charged with two offences:

    • one count of importing a marketable quantity of border controlled drug contrary to section 307.2 of the Criminal Code Act 1995 (Cth), and
    • one count of possess controlled border drug, contrary to section 307.6 of the Criminal Code Act 1995 (Cth).

The maximum penalties for these offences are 25 years imprisonment, or a fine up to $550,000, or both.

The man had his bail refused and was remanded in custody to appear at Brisbane Magistrate Court on 20 October 2017.
