Islamic State East Asia seeks to advance Islamic State's ideology and establish a caliphate within the Southern Philippines.

The Government's decision to list this organisation followed careful consideration and advice from Australia's security agencies and demonstrates the Government's continued commitment to ensuring Australia has strong laws to protect all Australians, both here and overseas.

The listing is valid for three years, after which the Government may re-list the organisation.

Under the Criminal Code, it is an offence to be a member of, participate in, train with, or provide support to, a terrorist organisation. These offences attract penalties of up to 25 years imprisonment. More information about organisations listed under the Criminal Code is available at the National Security website.

The Government appreciates the continued cooperation and assistance from the states and territories in listing and re-listing terrorist organisations.
