Highly-visible police presence during footy finals

Acting Commander David Clayton said fans would notice the police presence at the ground, public transport hubs and across the wider CBD.
“It doesn’t matter if you are heading to the MCG or into the city to enjoy a night out this September – police will be there to keep you safe every step of the way,” he said.
“Our boosted, around the clock presence will mean anyone entering or leaving the city is likely to notice the increased police deployment.”
Anyone attending a finals game is advised to arrive early as the standard bag checks and wanding will be in place and parking limited.
“The finals series will be business as usual in terms of security arrangements at the ground, similar to other highly attended matches this season,” Cmdr Clayton said.
“These things take time so we ask fans to be patient and factor extra time into their planning.
“Traffic is likely to be heavy so we encourage people to take public transport where possible.
“Once the final siren blows, police will follow the same steps as fans heading home.”
