Mayor of Brimbank Cr John Hedditch says the Council is reviewing this policy to outline the vision, guiding principles and strategic path for a range of environmental sustainability priorities.
“The Brimbank community will have great ideas to contribute as part of this updated Environmental Sustainability Policy.
“Priorities include the natural environment, built environment, greenhouse gas reduction, climate change adaptation, water, waste and pollution,” Cr Hedditch said.
The draft Policy includes principles that underpin Council’s approach to achieving environmentally sustainable outcomes, including:
· Representing the community’s local sustainability priorities
· Facilitating a strategic approach to addressing sustainability issues
· Responding to emerging environmental issues and opportunities
· Supporting the community to live and work sustainably.
The policy is paired with the Environmental Sustainability Framework which outlines how the policy will be implemented. This too will be open for feedback and outlines renewable energy initiatives within the greenhouse gas sub-section.
