The Garage Sale Trail involves a weekend event of garage sales held collectively at the homes of residents, local schools, businesses or community groups.
The event will be held on the weekend of Saturday 21 October and Sunday 22 October.
Mayor of Brimbank, Cr John Hedditch said this is a fun way for people to declutter their homes, fundraise, meet their neighbours and reuse and recycle items rather than throw them out.
“Council is pleased to be participating in the community event for the very first time. It is important that Council identify sensible ways to promote reuse and waste minimisation to help build a cleaner, greener Brimbank.
“It’s a great way for communities to connect and interact with their neighbourhood around the issue of resource consumption and the environmental benefits of reuse and recycling,” Cr Hedditch said.
With over 150 Councils and 320,000 Australians participating each year, this is a very popular event and a great way to create positive social and environmental change.
Last year over 2.1 million items were listed for sale or reuse during the event. This included over 15,000 sales registered nationally with the average household sale making $379, community groups $650 and schools made $1,500.
To take part in the event residents, community groups, schools and businesses must register their sale. To register your garage sale at no cost or to see what’s for sale in your area visit www.garagesaletrail.com.au or phone 02 9052 0827.
