Mayor of Brimbank, Cr John Hedditch will officially open the competed works at 10.30am, with celebrations continuing until late afternoon.
“We’re inviting community members to come down to the Keilor Village Shopping Centre on Old Calder Highway to help celebrate the completion of this project, and support the local traders.
“The $975,000 project is part of Council’s implementation of the Keilor Village Vision and Concept Plan.
“The works have improved access for pedestrians and increased the amount of seating and informal dining spaces available.
“We have also improved the environmental performance of the area through water sensitive design and the planting of more trees and flowering plants,” Cr Hedditch said.
The full scope of works includes a new raised pedestrian pavement, resurfaced car park, raised pedestrian crossings, feature seating areas, street furniture, new bus stops and shelters, cycle trail extension, tree planting and landscaping.
In line with the Keilor Village Concept Plan adopted in April 2016, materials in keeping with the local village character have been used in the upgrade – including blue stone and timber.
“I take this opportunity to thank the traders and residents in the area for their patience and support while works were undertaken,” Cr Hedditch said.
As part of the celebrations Council will be giving away ‘Keilor Cash’ vouchers available from 10.30am which can be used for food and refreshments at participating businesses between Kennedy and Arabin streets on the day until 3.30pm. Limited vouchers available.
There will also be entertainment, including fairies doing face-painting and storytelling from 2-4pm.
The cost of the works also includes $100,000 from Melbourne Water to construct a raingarden with viewing deck at the corner of Old Calder Highway and Kennedy Street.
The Mayor will formally open the works at 10.30am at the new seating node - corner Old Calder Highway and Kennedy Street.
The project has been assisted by the Victorian Government through Melbourne Water Corporation as part of the Living Rivers Stormwater program.
This event is supported by the Keilor Village Traders Association.
