Brimbank Mayor Cr Margaret Giudice said Council would contribute $1.1 million towards the project – which will include upgrades to Princess Street, Percy Street, and the laneway connecting the two streets, along with an additional shared path from Percy Street to Stradbroke Drive.

“We’re excited to deliver new, high-quality lighting, landscaping and pathways along this important connection in St Albans.

“St Albans is a vibrant and welcoming community with much to offer – including the St Albans Community Centre and Bowery Theatre in Princess Street which provides a focal point for this part of the centre.

“Upgrades to pathways in Princess Street, and the shared path from Percy Street to Stradbroke Drive, will improve connections for people walking and cycling – making it easier to get around in St Albans.

“The new lighting will help to create a well-lit and inviting environment where people feel safe and confident getting around,” Cr Giudice said.

Council has consulted with the St Albans Business Association and Victoria Police – who have supported this project.

Construction is expected to begin in mid-2018.

The Lighting the Way - from Princess St to Percy Street is funded by the Victorian Government’s Community Crime Prevention Program.
