Victoria Leads The Nation In Jobs Growth

The ABS labour force figures for July show sustained job growth in Victoria, with employment increasing for the sixth consecutive month.
Of the additional 93,000 jobs created in the past 12 months, 89,500 have been full-time.
Since the Andrews Labor Government was elected in November 2014, there have been 150,400 new jobs created, with full-time employment up by 111,900 over the same period.
Victoria’s unemployment rate of 5.9 per cent is down from 6.4 per cent a year ago, and is the second lowest unemployment rate in the nation.
Today’s figures also showed an increase in Victoria’s participation rate, as more Victorians began looking for work – buoyed by a strong economy and strong jobs growth.
Youth unemployment has also continued to fall and is now 1.9 percentage points lower than a year ago.
Victoria’s jobs growth is expected to be sustained with a robust labour market outlook, reflecting strong trends in leading indicators, including job advertisements and job vacancies.
