Tram crash at Ascot Vale

Police have been told the tram was travelling east along Maribyrnong Road when the tram derailed at the intersection of Ascot Vale Road about 12.20am.
The tram, with only the driver on board, collided with a bus shelter and fire hydrant.
The driver, a 49-year-old Sunshine man, was not injured.
He is expected to be charged with careless driving.
The intersection is expected to be closed until midday and drivers are advised to avoid the area due to road closures.
