The jewellery was seized from a store in Collins Street, Melbourne in October as part of an investigation into the handling and receiving of stolen jewellery.
It is believed the items were stolen during home burglaries in the weeks leading up to 5 October this year.
Detective Sergeant Ashley Penry said although police have worked hard to find the owners, there is still a lot of unclaimed jewellery.
“It is not very often that we find such high quantities of stolen jewellery in its original form,” Detective Sergeant Penry said.
“Usually it’s been melted down or sold before we are involved, so this is a unique position for us.
“We know that jewellery often holds a lot of sentimental value, which is why we are so eager to return it to the rightful owners.
“There are a number of very distinctive pieces amongst the seized items and we are confident that people will recognise these.”
Detective Sergeant Penry said images of the stolen items will be uploaded onto Victoria Police’s official Facebook page this morning at approximately 8am.
Anyone who has had jewellery stolen from their house in the weeks leading up to 5 October 2017 is urged to look at the images.
If anyone believes they own any of the stolen goods, they are asked to email CRIMEECHOTFOIC@police.vic.gov.au with the subject line ‘Jewellery’. They should also include their contact details and quote the unique reference number located on the image. Anyone without email access can call (03) 8690 4936 between 8am and 4pm, Monday to Friday however due to the high number of enquiries being received, investigators prefer enquiries to be emailed.
