The incident took place at a local supermarket on Pascoe Vale Road at 10.55 am on the morning of March 6.
Investigators have been told that a man entered the supermarket and threatened the cashier with a large knife, before walking behind the service counter and stealing money from the till.
The male then left the supermarket with the cash and allegedly used the knife to threaten another person who attempted to stop him from leaving the area.
The male then got into a black Honda Civic and drove away.
The male is perceived to be Caucasian in appearance and was wearing green shoes, red-patterned shorts, a grey hoodie and a black and white baseball cap.
Police have released an image of a man who they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries and the black Honda Civic in the hope that someone may recognise the vehicle.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or make a confidential on-line report at www.crimestoppers.com.au.
