Monash Freeway collision

Police are appealing for witnesses following a multi-vehicle collision in Mount Waverley earlier this morning.

    It is believed a man pulled his car over on the outbound emergency lane of the Monash Freeway near Forster Road about 1.20am.

    The man exited his vehicle before being hit by an oncoming truck.

    As a result of the collision, a semi-trailer and white Toyota subsequently collided.

    The man who was struck was taken to hospital in a critical condition, but later died.

    Police will prepare a report for the Coroner.

    A second man, who was the driver and sole occupant of the Toyota, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

    One truck driver sustained minor injuries and the second was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

    The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are yet to be established and the investigation is ongoing.

    Road closures are currently in place in the outbound lanes of the Monash Freeway between Huntingdale Road and Forster Road.
