Investigators have been told an unknown offender broke into a vehicle parked on Woodvale Close in Essendon and stole a number of items including a credit card about 8.15pm on 7 January.

Police believe the same card was then used by a man, believed to be in his 30s or 40s, in a number of purchases at various stores in the Melbourne CBD the next day between 8.30am and 12.10pm.

The man is perceived to be of Caucasian appearance with a moustache and goatee.

It is believed the man was balding and had an earring in his left ear.

Investigators have released CCTV images of a man they believe could assist with their enquiries.

Anyone with information on the man or vehicle is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
