The festival will feature a women’s 7-a-side community tournament, as well as free soccer programs and activities for all ages and skill levels.
Mayor of Brimbank, Cr Lucinda Congreve encouraged community members to come along to the festival, and to register themselves or their kids to take part in the activities planned.
“This will be the second annual Brimbank Female Football Festival and it promises to be a fantastic day out for the entire family.
“It doesn’t matter if you’re a football fanatic, or have never even touched a soccer ball before – we’ve got something to suit everyone,” the Mayor said.
Cr Georgina Papafotiou said: “Promoting female participation in sport is important to Council. We want to see as many community members - no matter what their age or ability – out there, having fun, being active, and giving soccer a go.”
Community members can now register for the following free activities:
· Aldi Mini-Roos (11am - 12noon): A fun and inclusive introduction to soccer for girls and boys aged four to nine. The session will include a variety of basic soccer activities to keep kids running around.
· City Girls Clinic (1 - 2pm): A girls-only clinic that works on developing soccer skills in a fund and social session. For girls aged 10-15 years.
· Soccer Mums (11am - 12noon): A fun, low intensity program combining fitness exercises with basic soccer skills. Designed for females who are looking to get back into playing, or those wanting to try soccer for the first time.
· Walking Football (11am - 12noon): A modified soccer program that improves fitness and health with a modified and slower version of the game. Suitable for men and women who love soccer and want to keep playing, or for those getting into the game for the first time.
· Mini Roos Coaching Course (9am - 12noon): A practical course that encourages potential coaches to develop sessions based on fun. Participants will get to develop a session to deliver on the day with Mini Roos participants.
Former Matildas’ player and current goalkeeper for Melbourne City in the W League, Mel Barbieri will be amongst plays making appearances in the day.
There will also be cultural performances, kids’ activities, and Calder United in the Women’s National Premier League.
