It is believed the bike was travelling south along the Bolte Bridge about 10pm and took the exit ramp towards the Burnley Tunnel when it lost control around a bend and crashed into a side barrier.

The rider was ejected from the bike and thrown over the ramp.

The 32-year-old Highett man died at the scene.

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are currently on scene.

Investigators wish to speak to the rider of a second motorbike which was observed riding alongside the vehicle immediately prior to the crash.

Witnesses have reported the two bikes may have been racing at high speed.

Anyone with information or who witnessed the incident, including anyone with dash cam footage, is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
