Officers noticed a green Mitsubishi Magna sitting stationary at the intersection of Gordon Street and Ballarat Road about 1.30am.

Police attempted to intercept the car, which had started to pull over to the left-hand side, before it continued driving and struck a Toyota Corolla that had been parked along Gordon Street.

No one was inside the car at the time.

The driver of the Mitsubishi, 41-year-old man from Cairnlea, underwent a preliminary oral fluid test at the scene, returning a positive reading for methyl amphetamine and cannabis.

He was taken back to the station for an evidentiary test and, pending the results, is expected to be charged on summons with drug and driving-related offences.

The intercept forms part of Operation Scoreboard, a statewide focus on keeping our community safe on the roads.

The operation will run for four days and aims to reduce the number of lives lost and injuries on the roads.

During this time motorists should expect to have their vehicles scanned and be breath tested, drug tested and speed-checked by police.

The operation involves all available personnel including local road policing units, general duties, other operational policing units and centralised resources from Road Policing Command.

The operation started at 12.01am today and will conclude at 11.59pm on Sunday 30 September 2018.
