Investigators have been told a man attended an equipment hire company on Nepean Highway, Brighton East about 9.30am on Saturday 26 January.

He organised the hire of a generator by supplying the company a doctored, stolen licence.

The man took the generator and failed to return it on the agreed date.

The company made further enquires and determined that the details they had been provided were false and reported the matter to police.

Investigators have recovered the stolen goods but are yet to identify the man involved.

Detectives have released an image of a man that they believe may be able to assist with their enquires.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
