The awards were presented at the We Are Brimbank Gala Dinner, which was attended by award winners, nominees, judges and community members.

Brimbank Mayor Cr Margaret Giudice said it was a celebratory night and a great joy to publicly recognise the exceptional contributions, hard work and determination of organisations and community groups making a positive difference within Brimbank.

The recipients of the 2018 We Are Brimbank Awards, presented across five categories, are:

    • Culture, Arts & Tourism Award: Friends of the Black Powder Mill

    • Environment & Sustainability Award: Friends of Kororoit Creek

    • Employment & Enterprise Award: Mambourin Enterprises Ltd
    • Inclusive Brimbank Award: Brimbank Youth Ambassadors
    • Learning Excellence Award: CHASE (Community Health Advancement and Student Engagement)

The Mayor congratulated all of the nominees and recipients and said these awards celebrate the pride and potential of the City of Brimbank and highlight it as a welcoming community.

“The recipients have demonstrated an outstanding contribution in their respective categories and it’s an honour for Council to pay tribute to these community minded groups and organisations.

“We are a proud and vibrant community and this year’s award winners and nominees are very much at the heart of what makes Brimbank such a wonderful place.

“It’s been an exciting time for us with the We Are Brimbank campaign running this year and these awards complement it beautifully.

“We are a diverse, integrated and inclusive community, and one thing’s for sure – when we pull together, we get things done – and that’s exactly what the recipients of these awards have demonstrated.

“In addition to the We Are Brimbank Awards, I’d like to mention the Australia Day Awards for 2019 are now open.

“These awards recognise the exceptional contribution, hard work and determination of individuals making a positive difference within Brimbank, who can be nominated in two categories; the Brimbank Citizen of the Year, and the Brimbank Young Citizen of the Year.

“There are so many individuals in our community doing great work and I encourage people to start thinking about who they might nominate this year,” the Mayor concluded.
