Since 2013, Council has reduced its greenhouse gas emissions by 24 per cent, and is almost halfway towards its target of a 50 per cent reduction by 2023.

The reduction was achieved through a number of projects, including street lighting changeover to LED lights, energy efficiency upgrades and installing solar energy systems in Council facilities.

Mayor of Brimbank, Cr Margaret Giudice invited the community to share their ideas on how Council could continue to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

“It’s important we create a more sustainable Brimbank through programs that not only benefit the environment through reduced greenhouse gas emissions, but also deliver cost savings to our community.

“Our earlier projects have helped us reduce emissions and also reduce resource use and costs.

“We’re determined to continue our drive to reduce emissions and support climate change action in Brimbank.

“We’re planning to do this through a broader rollout of solar energy at Council facilities, transitioning our Council fleet vehicles to renewal energy sources, and supporting our community to source more solar and renewal energy,” Cr Giudice said.

The revised draft strategy is open for public consultation for four weeks from 23 April to 18 May.
