Four early years centres renamed

The renamed centres are:

• Carmody Drive Kindergarten at 59 Carmody Drive, Cairnlea (formerly Deer Park Kindergarten)

• Southwold Street Kindergarten at 10a Southwold Street, St Albans (formerly Sunshine Park Estate Kindergarten)

• Aycliffe Drive Kindergarten at 5 Aycliffe Drive, Deer Park (formerly Westerngate Kindergarten)

• Thornhill Drive Kindergarten and Children’s Centre at 39 Thornhill Drive, Keilor Downs (formerly Keilor Downs Child Care Centre)

Brimbank’s Early Years Centres play an important role in the early education of children in our community.

Council is a Naming Authority under the Geographic Place Names Act 1998 (the Act) and the Guidelines for Geographic Names 2010 - Version 2 (the Guidelines), and is responsible for geographic names in the City of Brimbank.

Council’s Place Naming Policy sets out the process and criteria for place naming features, places or roads in the City of Brimbank. The policy has an emphasis on preserving the City’s identity and heritage, recognising its rich cultural and ethnic diversity, and ensuring any naming decisions are made in the best interests of the whole community.

Proposed names (or renaming proposals) are assessed against the Guidelines prior to community consultation, to ensure they meet all relevant criteria.
