Police investigate car fire in Preston

Darebin Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating following a suspicious car fire in Preston last month.

The victim was asleep in her home near Bell Railway Station when she was woken by a loud noise on Monday 17 October about 11.25pm.

The victim looked outside and saw her car fully ablaze in the driveway.

Emergency services were called to the property and the blaze was extinguished.

The victim’s car was completely destroyed and extensive damage was caused to her fence and gate.

Detectives have released images and CCTV of a man they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.

The man is described as being aged in his late teens, with a medium build and short dark hair.

At the time of the incident he was wearing a black hooded jacket, dark trousers and a white t-shirt with a black logo on the front.

Police believe the man may have boarded a north-bound train at Bell Railway Station and travelled to the Thomastown Railway Station a short time after the fire.
