The Gallery Sunshine Everywhere exhibition opens with a student performance at The Granary Café in Sunshine and features works from 20 students as part of Brimbank Council’s annual Neighbour Day celebration.

Brimbank Mayor Cr Lucinda Congreve said the exhibition was the culmination of months of work by students and staff and reflected this year’s Neighbour Day theme: Loneliness – what neighbours can do to create connections.

“I congratulate these students on creating some really powerful artworks that help us all reflect on the difference that great neighbours can make in each other’s lives.

“Having and being great neighbours is the cornerstone of strong, resilient communities – which is why Brimbank Council is proud to support local residents to build connections with their neighbours,” Cr Congreve said.

Cr Congreve said Council was delighted to help our community celebrate Neighbour Day by awarding 28 grants of $250 each to local residents and not-for-profit groups to organise events in their communities.

“I’m delighted that so many people in our community have embraced the spirit of Neighbour Day and are organising events in their streets and local parks to celebrate together and get to know each other.

“Building great connections with your neighbours is a fantastic way to strengthen our community – and we all benefit from living in healthy, happy, connected communities.

“As a Council, we are proud to support residents to get to know their neighbours, welcome newcomers and encourage healthy, safe and well connected neighbourhoods,” Cr Congreve said.
