Minister for Industry and Employment Ben Carroll today visited the Master Builders Association of Victoria’s Building Leadership Simulation Centre (BLSC) to announce $500,000 for the new program.

The Master Builders Youth Employment Program is a partnership between the Master Builders and Jobs Victoria that will train and place more than 100 young jobseekers into the construction industry.

The innovative program will operate from the Building Leadership Simulation Centre in South Melbourne – the only one of its kind in Australia and one of only three in the world.

The video simulation program, which can represent construction sites across Melbourne, is linking young people into entry-level jobs in the construction industry through the BLSC.

Participants learn by applying, practicing and refining new skills in a series of simulated workplace exercises. They then receive critical individual feedback through skilled observers.

The program has cut Occupational Health and Safety incidents by up to 90 per cent, reduced construction costs by up to five per cent and improved construction quality by up to 10 per cent.

The Labor Government is building the schools, hospitals, roads and public transport the state needs – creating tens-of-thousands of jobs and work for apprentices and trainees.

The Labor Government’s $90 million Jobs Victoria initiative provides tailored services to support more than 8,300 jobseekers facing barriers to employment into work.
