Melbourne North police and their Community Consultative Committee are again inviting people to donate new toys and non-perishable food items to those experiencing hardship over the festive season.

Police will distribute donations to local support agency The Venny Children’s Communal Backyard in Kensington and Ronald McDonald House in Parkville.

Leading Senior Constable Nick Parissis said police have been overwhelmed by the support the community has shown the cause in previous years.

“We have seen first-hand the very real difference these small donations can make to people struggling over the Christmas period,” Ldg Sen Const Parissis said.

“Christmas is a wonderful time to give to those in need. If you can, add a little extra to your shopping basket and drop it off at one of our collection points, knowing your donated goods will be put to great use,” he said.

Anyone who would like to donate can do so by delivering goods to Melbourne North Police Station at 36 Wreckyn Street, North Melbourne, or one of the following collection points.

Carlton:

Bank of Melbourne – 310 Lygon Street, Carlton

Bendigo Bank – 186 Lygon Street, Carlton

Commonwealth Bank – 259 Lygon Street, Carlton

Kathleen Syme Community Centre – 251 Faraday Street, Carlton

Kensington:

Kensington Town Hall – Bellair Street, Kensington

Newtons Pharmacy – 477 Macauley Road, Kensington

North Melbourne:

Commonwealth Bank – 53 Errol Street, North Melbourne

Westpac – 55 Errol Street, North Melbourne

Items can be donated now through to 18 December.

Police will attend Ronald McDonald House on Saturday 22 December to visit families and distribute some of the community donations.
