Man charged following fatal CBD assault

The assault occurred on Russell Street near the corner of Flinders Lane on Saturday 6 May about 11.45pm.

A 22-year-old Werribee man was allegedly punched and fell to the ground before being taken to hospital where he died last Friday 12 May.

A 26-year-old Ocean Grove man has been charged with manslaughter, intentionally cause serious injury and recklessly cause serious injury.

He will appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court this afternoon.

Detectives are keen to speak to anyone that may have witnessed the assault.

Investigators would also like to speak to anyone that was at the Cherry Bar on ACDC Lane prior to the assault between 10.15pm and 11.45pm.
