Minister for Agriculture Jaala Pulford officially launched Australia’s Medicinal Cannabis Leadership Program Cann10 at Parliament House today.

Cann10 recently partnered with DeakinCo, the commercial arm of Deakin University, to run the Medicinal Cannabis Leadership Program.

The eight-week program will begin in August, and include workshops, lectures and webinars on international and domestic law, chemistry and pharmacology, industry and commerce, agricultural science and clinical practice to find innovative ways to advance the medicinal cannabis industry.

Victoria was the first state in Australia to legalise access to medicinal cannabis for patients in exceptional circumstances.

On 29 February 2016, the Commonwealth introduced a national framework for industry to obtain licences and permits for cultivating and manufacturing medicinal cannabis.

Industry can currently apply to the Commonwealth Office of Drug Control for a licence to cultivate and manufacture medicinal cannabis, subject to any additional State/Territory requirements.

Victoria is leading the world in medicinal cannabis research, with Victorian Government scientists using  cutting-edge research tools such as genome mapping and chemical analysis to identify specific plant strains that are expected to be beneficial for particular patient conditions.

A local medicinal cannabis industry will enable ongoing and expanded access to medicinal cannabis for patients in need, as well as encourage innovation, growth and employment opportunities in Victoria.
