Minister for Housing, Disability and Ageing Martin Foley said the $3500 funding was an acknowledgement of the work of St Kilda Mums Inc.

Established in 2009 by five mothers who met through St Kilda Maternal and Child Health, the organisation collects, cleans, repairs and provides material relief to families experiencing need.

From small steps the organisation has grown to a massive 1000 people who volunteer across three outlets in St Kilda, Geelong and Ballarat.

Last financial year, they provided support to more than 6000 families across the three sites, distributing more than 23,000 products, including preloved baby goods and nursery equipment, books and toys.

The organisation also operates the Cots for Tots Campaign to encourage donation of pre-loved cots that meet current Australian safety standards.

This year St Kilda Mums will be trying to accumulate 500 cots for distribution, which will be enough for nine months’ supply.
