Electoral Commissioner, Tom Rogers, said Australia Day is a time to celebrate everything about being Australian, including our right to vote.“Australia is one of the world’s greatest democracies,” Mr Rogers said.

“Our newest citizens will be enrolling in a democratic system where they have easy access to their vote, some perhaps for the first time, and it is not only their right but their responsibility to participate in the election of their representatives.”

Enrolling to vote is compulsory for all Australian citizens 18 years and over and you must be enrolled before you can vote in Australian elections.

Mr Rogers encouraged all Australians to ensure they keep their enrolment up to date.

“If you’ve moved recently for university or a new job in 2017, then take a couple of minutes this Australia Day to make sure your vote moves with you.
