Police have been told a 35-year-old man had been shopping and was approached by three unknown men on Widford Street about 8pm.

An altercation occurred between the men before they punched him a number of times.

The victim, a Glenroy man, also received a laceration to his arm by an unknown weapon.

He returned home before raising the alarm and was taken to hospital.

The three male offenders were all wearing yellow hi-vis tops and all are perceived to be Middle Eastern in appearance.

One man is believed to be aged in his 60s and the other two men aged in their 30s.

Investigators are keen to speak to any witnesses that were at Olsen Place around the time of the assault.
