Victorian man charged with child exploitation material offences

On Friday morning, 4 May 2018, members from the Victorian JACET, comprising the Australian Federal Police (AFP) and Victoria Police, arrested the man and conducted a search warrant at his Hampton Park residence, seizing a number of digital devices. Australian Border Force (ABF) attended and detained two unlawful non-citizens.
Police will allege that the Hampton Park man used a social media platform to transmit and possess child pornography material involving child victims in South East Asia. Enquiries with international partners are continuing to identify the victims.
The man has been charged with:
- use a carriage service to access child pornography material, contrary to section 474.19 (1)(a)(i) of the Criminal Code Act 1995 (Cth) and possess child pornography material, contrary to section 51G of the Crimes Act 1958 (VIC).
- Possession of child abuse material contrary to s51G(1) Crimes Act (Vic).
The man has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on 3 August 2018.
The maximum penalty for theses offences is 15 years imprisonment.
