Sunvale skate park ready to roll

Brimbank Mayor Cr Margaret Giudice said Council was delighted to open the skate park component of the much-anticipated Sunvale Community Park.

“We are delighted that the skate park section of the exciting new Sunvale Community Park is completed and thrilled to be able to open up this part of the park in time for the school holidays.

“Work is continuing on the Sunvale Community Park – which will include play spaces -  including water play - a large, green ‘kick-a-ball’ space, a large shelter for gatherings and events, BBQ facilities, Indigenous art work, edible garden and more.

“All existing trees are being kept and new large shade trees will be planted.

“We are excited to see development of this much-anticipated park progressing – and look forward to its completion,” Cr Giudice said.

The $3.65 million Sunvale Community Park was funded by Brimbank City Council ($1.7 million), the Victorian Government ($1.7 million), and Melbourne Water $150,000. The Victorian Government supported the development of the skate park by providing $100,000 through the 2017-18 Community Sports Infrastructure Fund.

Sunvale Community Park is being developed under Council’s Creating Better Parks Policy and Plan. The investment by Council and the Victorian Government in Sunvale Community Park continues the positive impact that Creating Better Parks is having in Brimbank.

Cr Giudice said the wider Sunshine community, and in particular the members of Friends of Sunvale Community Park, had played a key role in this project – from ensuring this land remained in public hands, to providing important input to help inform the development of a Masterplan for the site.

“I, and Council, would like to thank everyone who has contributed to creating this important green space for our community to share – and look forward to celebrating together when the park is completed,” Cr Giudice said.
