South Yarra and Malvern East armed robberies

Stonnington Crime Investigation Unit detectives are appealing for public assistance after a series of armed robberies at service stations in South Yarra and Malvern East earlier this month.

Investigators have been told an unknown man entered a service station located on Toorak Road, South Yarra about 1.30pm on Wednesday 3 August, and produced a knife before making demands for cash.

The man stole an amount of cash and fled on foot heading east along Toorak Road towards South Yarra Railway Station.

Investigators believe the man boarded a train at South Yarra Railway Station and disembarked at Caulfield.

Police believe the same man same man entered a second service station on Dandenong Road in Malvern East about 2pm.

The man approached the counter before producing a knife and made demands for cash.

Again, the man stole an amount of cash and fled on foot towards Caulfield Railway Station where investigators believe he boarded a train for Flinders Street.

Investigators have released CCTV images of a man who they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.

The man is perceived to be of African appearance, 185cm tall, and was wearing a dark blue ‘Yankees’ jumper, grey hooded top and black pants, and was carrying a red and black backpack.
