Minister for Education James Merlino met students at Maribyrnong College to congratulate them on completing their VCE and discuss their plans for the future.

A total of 49,765 students have now completed the final chapter in their school lives and obtained their VCE, which represents a record completion rate of 97.9 per cent of students.

Of these students, 3804 will be awarded the VCE (Baccalaureate) and a further 13,050 students will receive their Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL).

14,649 high achieving students received a study score of 40 or more in a subject.

Mr Merlino urged all students to make the most of their hard work, and to strive for excellence in whatever it is they choose to do next.

While many students will seek a place at a university, others will be seeking to advance their careers through TAFE, apprenticeships, traineeships  or employment.

Students who may be disappointed with their results should contact their school or the Post Results and ATAR Service on how to change their higher education preferences.

Students have until 5pm on 14 December to change their university and TAFE preferences. Students can contact the Post Results enquiry service on 1800 653 080.
